1. Back Pain
Back pain costs the country an estimated £5.1bn every year, including £1bn of the NHS budget, and leads to the loss of around five million working days.
The problem affects around one in three adults each year and leads to 2.6 million people visiting their GP (from the Guardian). Massage therapy has proven to help with back pain, reducing anxiety therefore encouraging relaxation of the muscles which helps a better sleeping pattern.
Massage therapy also increases blood circulation, which increases nutrients to the affected area of back pain (particularly beneficial to muscular injuries and strains). Massage therapy also stimulates the production of the body's natural pain killers – endorphins.
2. Shoulder Pain
Up to twenty muscles are involved in the operation of the shoulder, and they are all susceptible to strain. Modern lifestyles and repetitive working environments encourage poor posture and positioning which in turn may cause a range of shoulder related pain. This is often caused by weakened upper back muscles and tight chest muscles pulling the shoulder out of balance. We can restore this balance using a range of massage techniques and provide guidance for strengthening your muscles.
3. Neck Pain
The neck is susceptible to injury and fatigue, in part because of its flexibility, but also because its job is to support the heavy weight of the head! Poor sleep habits, posture, working environment and leisure activities can cause neck pain.
Do you sit for long hours without stretching? Could your pillow provide more support to your neck while sleeping? Ever find yourself slouching when you are relaxing on the couch? Massage therapy can be an effective tool in dealing with neck pain.
